Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics Research Engineer

If you have background in Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics, interest in practically relevant Semantic Technologies, aspiration for professional growth and desire to participate in the development of a revolutionary technology for Biomedical Data Federation, we have a job for you!

Your main tasks will be:

  • Designing and programming SADI Semantic Web services for various biomedical databases, nomenclatures, ontologies and bioinformatics algorithms.
  • Designing, conducting and documenting case studies with IPSNP's Hydra query engine for SADI Web services.
  • Research in knowledge representation principles for various biomedical domains and practical development of ontologies and rule bases for them.
  • Facilitating and leading pilot studies with our technology partners, including several reputable research organisations, small Biotech companies and a multinational Pharmaceutical company.
  • Year 2 responsibilities: training and coordinating more junior Bioinformaticians, software developers and knowledge engineers.

The following qualifications are mandatory:

  • Bioinformatics and/or Cheminformatics background.
  • PhD or MSc with work experience in relevant fields.
  • Working knowledge of core semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
  • Working knowledge of Java or any other object-oriented programming language.

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Familiarity with Web service technologies, client-side or server-side, especially SADI.
  • Experience with any data integration technologies.
  • Familiarity with rule-based knowledge engineering and/or rule engines.
  • Exposure to natural language processing, especially text mining.

The salary will be between $60K and $85K CAD per annum, depending on your qualifications.

This job will be located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Automated Reasoning Engineer

IPSNP Computing Inc is looking for an Automated Reasoning Engineer to play a key role in the development of a revolutionary technology for Biomedical Data Federation.

The main tasks will be:

  • Development of a specialised reasoning engine as a core component of IPSNP's query engine for SADI Semantic Web services.
  • Design and implementation of other components of the query engine, related to the processing of RDF, OWL and SPARQL, and one or more rule languages.
  • Design and implementation of other components of the query engine, related to the discovery and invocation of SADI services.

The following qualifications are mandatory:

  • Research experience in an area related to Automated Reasoning implementation.
  • PhD or MSc with work experience in relevant fields.
  • Good knowledge of the Java programming language.

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with Semantic Technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
  • Familiarity with rule-based reasoning.
  • Experience with Web service technologies, client-side or server-side, especially experience with Semantic Web services and/or the use of Web services for data integration.
  • Experience with any data integration technologies.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing.
  • Industrial software development work experience.
  • Any exposure to Bioinformatics.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomedical Data Integration and Information Extraction

IPSNP Computing Inc is seeking a recent PhD graduate (possibly with some post-doc experience) to fill a Postdoctoral Researcher position in biomedical data integration and interoperability. The job is ideal for a person with strong research background in bioinformatics/cheminformatics, wishing to develop a track record in industrial research.

The main duties will be:

  • Designing and conducting biomedical data integration and information extraction case studies with IPSNP's Hydra query engine for SADI Web services.
  • Research in knowledge representation principles for various biomedical domains and their practical application for biomedical data integration solutions.
  • Facilitating joint case studies and pilots with our research partners, including several reputable research organisations, small Biotech companies and a multinational Pharmaceutical company.
  • Writing research publications and whitepapers based on Hydra and information extraction-related research in target application areas including Healthcare, Genomics and Environmental Impact Assessment. Examples of IPSNP authored papers can be found here.

The following qualifications are mandatory:

  • PhD and relevant publications in Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics or a strongly related field.
  • Relevant training in any of the following; Genomics, Clinical Informatics, Cheminformatics.
  • Working knowledge of Java or any other object-oriented programming language.

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with any data integration technologies.
  • Experience with text mining.
  • Familiarity with core semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
  • Experience with bioinformatics workflow systems.

The contract is initially for one year, but may be extended to two years or converted into a permanent position. The starting salary will be between $50K and $60K CAD per annum, depending on your qualifications.
